Cabal wyches

Sexy and deadly. Mostly deadly

Wyches are a special specimen to the local Commorragh wildlife. They like blades, been half-naked and jumping around in a bloodthirsty fashion.

Where kabalites mostly fights for control and power, wyches have elevated melee combats to a science, even to an art. They love to fight, and even if the strongest succubus often plots against rivals, most of them think nothing is worth taking a bath in you freshly cut-open opponent's guts.

For the most popular kabals, main lair are giant arenas, covered in deadly pointy traps and public terraces. Thousands of kabalites are coming (and paying) to embrace the morbid spectacles and regenerate through pain and demise.

Multi-racial slaves, aetheric beasts, war prisoners and wychs are fighting daily for the sole purpose of entertainement. And who could blame them ? This looks awesome *-*

Don't mess with this Hekatrix

Even she looks like a nice person

This lady sure know how to fight. Armed with both lance power weapon and blaster pistol, she takes war seriously.

I met this gal during an event organized in an arena of her own cabal. She was so frustrated of not going up in the hierarchy - despite killing most of her competitors more or less openly - that I managed to convince her to join me through pormises of promotions and constant blood baths.

She's now in charge of her own little wyches band, and I always send her frontline in a raider, where their daggers makes wonders.

.

This minature was one of the first conversion i was really proud about, mostly because of the natural pose. I mean she just seems so pissed :')

I clearly remember painting the full squad first for "training", and only then go full time on this one, spending countless hours on the face until I was satisfied with the result.

Wyches

Each of those wych has been specially selected during arenas exhibitions duels.

They sure are more expansive that the usual rookie, but they also are more competent in the art of death, and also somewhat more durable despite their lack of protection - at least if they make it to close contact -.

Also, everytime a new wych get recruited for me, he or she must pass a mandatory drugs test. No need to mention that if it comes negative, it's a deal breaker.

Mostly equipped with splinter pistols and a pretty wold variety of blades, usually from their personnal collection or trophies.

Even if I painted them several years ago, I remember spending a lot of time on each base. I wanted to make each of them unique, and even telling us a story - and that disease hasn't cured since then -

Most of the parts cames from the old GW warhammer 40,000 basing kit, and I deeply regret that it isn't produced anymore.

I've always loved wyches, despite been hated for years due to poor rules. The models are fresh and dynamics, offers great possibilities for conversions, and the kit just provides with really more than needed, which will fill your spare parts box.

Veterans

As long as I can remember, I've always wanted to collect Dark Eldars. Those old models from roughly 3rd edition are originals my parents bought me when I was wayyy younger ; and some of them have been painted several times.

I remember the first color scheme was dark green armor (I kinda liked the Dark angels too at the time), and then blackish skin and etheral blue blades, moving up next to skulls armors. I just couldn't make my mind and wanted to try all sorts of combinations.

I managed to integrate them to my army mostly by re-basing them and painting them with my new white and red color scheme. But sometimes this insn't enough, and models sculptures tends to not age well, especially when placed aside newer ones. Differents same weapons, thicker blades, etc.

But I wanted to pay tribute to my childhood and this gave me the opportunity for nice conversion : the female wych got a brand new power sword. And also hey shoulder needs a fix lel, there was a pointy stingy stuffy originally (see at the bootom of the page).

She might get promoted soon to Hekatrix, as now most of squads runs with 5 models.

Special weapons

Wych with hydra gauntlets

Just love most of the lore and many uses about those gauntlets - Go read Andy Chambers Path of the renegade now ! -.

The model looks gorgeous, and I clearly remember working on those black to blue gradients for hours, looking for the perfect combination.

Even if I managed to got it at the time, I'm not sur to remember it. Probably hawk turquoise, Abaddon black and White scar or something haha.

When the enemy see you've equipped this, they laugh so much they lose 1 CC

Maybe one of the most frustration induction model I've ever worked on. Really fragile, you barely can't transport it and will most likely break it during painting, even if you're really carefull.

Sadly, those doesn't have decent rules - I miss 6th edition - and aren't played anymore.

.. Whatever, I just like the concept and when it isn't broken the model looks fantastic.

In game usage

Put them in a raider or venoms, land them in contact as soon as possible

This unit isn't meant to deal massive damages (even if some urban legend say they are pretty decent blob lawn mowers), but more to delay/keep people in melee.

This concerns 2 kinds of units :

  • First, heavy weapons & vehicules : they will prevent them from firing their weapons, and even if they wanna fall back, your opponent must win a roll-off first thanks to the No escape ! rule. And even if he wins, he can't fire/charge during the next turn !
  • Second, hardcore melee units : when in contact, wyches have a 4++ invulnerable save, which make them much more durable, and make them a dream tarpit unit (cheap and resilient) versus costly enemy elites. Let them desperatly try to hit your wyches as if their weapons were directly made at toys 'r us, and deal with them later, when all their friends are cut into pieces

Eventhough over the years they built a bad reputation of beeing "useless" during the past few years, wyches can now deal a pretty good amount of damage

  • Agonisers are now way cheaper
  • Blast pistol and splinter pistols can now fire during each melee phase
  • Hydra gauntlets got a nice -1 armor reduction
  • Drugs aren't random anymore, and can allow you decent bonuses (+1S or +1A for example)
  • You can now stack 2 units of 5 wyches in a raider, granting 2 hekatrix & 2 special weapons
  • Wyches greatly benefit from the new Power From Pain rules !
  • And finally, any succubus will grant them reroll to hit, so long as they are in her aura

.. Put that all together and you no longer have a "damageless" squad ! Far from it ^^

But don't forget that they are troops and have disadvantages.

They are really fragile with their armor made from mashed potatoes. Even if the Power From Pain 6+++ helps a little, always put those guys into a transport, out of Line of Sight and/or in cover.

Don't lunch them into whatever enemy melee unit too. They sure can tarpit a lot, but will be sliced and diced versus unpropers targets.

Work in Progress / Misc

Painted : Ancient times, ~2015.

Conversions : Hekatrix got a lance from Sourges (.. if I remember correctly), and probably a blaster pistol from another kit too.

Female wych (old model) got a power sword from Vect knows where.. Probably Kab warrior wybarite (from the arm..)

Work in progress : Found a few WIP pictures from an old pinning tutorial. She still got one of the first color scheme, painted when I was 12-14 or something :')
